Officials build small-scale model of Soo Locks in effort to address ice delays for ships
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other partners are working to find new ways to address ice in the Soo Locks, which can cause significant shipping delays during the winter shipping season. Each winter and spring, according to the Corps of Engineers, the Poe Lock experiences navigational impacts due to ice flow. The Poe is the largest lock in the Soo, and officials expect to see the same challenges at the new lock when it’s complete in 2030. Interlake Holding Company Secures Two Great Lakes Vessels in Asset Acquisition
Interlake Holding Company announced today the purchase of the assets of Pere Marquette Shipping Company and Lake Michigan Car Ferry Company in an acquisition that includes two working Great Lakes vessels, the Articulated Tug-Barge Undaunted-Pere Marquette 41 and the S.S. Badger, a historic passenger-and-car ferry.
